KYOGEN
Kyogen was founded in 1910 as a "mon-guriya" (pasteurizer), a craftsman who handles the process of painting traditional Japanese family crests onto kimonos. Later, he became a "monsho-ueishi" (emblem painter), an artisan who hand-paints family crests onto kimonos, and this technique has been passed down through generations to the present day.
In 2010, he established his workshop, "Otome-dokoro Kyogen," and transformed into a design company that incorporates digital technology into traditional hand-painting techniques to create new expressions using family crests. He fuses traditional Japanese designs with a modern sensibility, and has worked on a wide range of products, interior decorations, and artwork, including original family crests.
