Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten

Since its establishment in 1861, Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten has been crafting and selling portable shrines, festival equipment, and traditional Japanese musical instruments such as taiko drums. With skilled artisans in woodworking, lacquerware, and metalworking, the company has long supported Japanese traditional festivals and the performing arts, from shrines and temples nationwide to Gagaku, Noh, and Kabuki.

Under the theme “Bringing Japanese Tradition from Asakusa to Everyday Life Around the World,” “Unomise” brand offers not only original items like toy taiko drums, but also products inspired by Japanese design and numerous collaborations with traditional Japanese craftsmen of various fields. Our aim is to bring the essence of Japanese culture into daily living.

The Toy Taiko is carefully handcrafted by artisans, with each piece made in the same way as a genuine nagadō-daiko—a hollowed wooden body covered with natural hide.
The collaboration small plates with Kutani ware brand “KUTANI SEAL” feature five designs connected to Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten—“Mikoshi, Taiko, Rabbit, Shishimai, and Kaminarimon”—illustrated by Keigo Uede of Uede Shigei, bringing a touch of charm to everyday life.
The “Hanji-e” tenugui inherits the picture-puzzle culture beloved by common people in the Edo period. This original work was specially created for us by Hiromine Nakamura, the fourth-generation artisan of Hakata Ningyō, a craft with over 400 years of history.
These items embody both tradition and playful spirit.
