Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten

Since its establishment in 1861, Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten has been crafting and selling portable shrines, festival equipment, and traditional Japanese musical instruments such as taiko drums. With skilled artisans in woodworking, lacquerware, and metalworking, the company has long supported Japanese traditional festivals and the performing arts, from shrines and temples nationwide to Gagaku, Noh, and Kabuki.

Under the theme “Bringing Japanese Tradition from Asakusa to Everyday Life Around the World,” “Unomise” brand offers not only original items like toy taiko drums, but also products inspired by Japanese design and numerous collaborations with traditional Japanese craftsmen of various fields. Our aim is to bring the essence of Japanese culture into daily living.

The Toy Taiko is crafted by skilled artisans using the same traditional techniques as a full-sized Nagado Taiko drum. A piece of genuine leather is stretched over a hand-hollowed wooden body, and each drum is carefully finished by hand. The Denden Daiko is a traditional Japanese children’s toy, recreated in a miniature version of the Uchwa Daiko, a rare drum found around the world. Each one is handmade by skilled artisans.

The Craftsman Sweatshirt features “Kakuji,” a traditional angular Japanese lettering style used on the happi coats worn by Miyamoto artisans. The word “Miyamoto” and the company name are layered together on a Made-in-Japan sweatshirt produced by KUME SEN-I Co.,Ltd in Sumida, Tokyo.

The Hanjie Tenugui is inspired by “Hanjie,” a traditional Edo-period form of visual wordplay once enjoyed by ordinary people. The original design was created especially for us by Hirotaka Nakamura, a fourth-generation Hakata doll artist.
These pieces bring together Japanese tradition, craftsmanship, and a playful spirit.
