Kishu Binchotan Towel
A deodorizing towel made from rayon fibers infused with binchotan charcoal, blended with cotton.
Binchotan charcoal, used in Japan since the Edo period, is said to absorb moisture and odors and to emit far-infrared rays. High-quality binchotan from Kishu (Wakayama Prefecture), made from ubame oak, is ground into a fine powder, kneaded into rayon fibers, and blended with cotton. The microscopic pores on the charcoal’s surface trap odor molecules, providing a deodorizing effect.
