Bokusho is an art form that developed from avant-garde calligraphy after World War II, transcending the traditional concepts and boundaries of calligraphy to explore the artistic beauty of ink. While calligraphy is not easily recognized as art in Japan, I see great potential in bokusho as a form of contemporary art. I continue to search for expressions that only I can create.

In addition, I am engaged in activities to promote the brilliance of Japan’s delicate and beautiful traditional culture and crafts. The award-winning piece this time was created by a bokusho artist from Tokyo, transformed into a Hakata-ori obi (sash) in Kyushu, and then crafted into zori (sandals) and bags by artisans in Osaka. From hand to hand, it connects regions and takes shape. Through this relay of tradition, I pass on the skills and sentiments to the future, continuing to showcase the cutting edge of tradition.

Born in Tokyo, I began using a brush at the age of 5 and engaged in various artistic activities, including painting and theater. In 2012, I became independent as a "bokusho-ka" (墨象家) to seek my own artistic expression. In 2014, I held my first solo exhibition as a bokusho-ka. In addition to presenting works, I collaborate with artists and musicians and perform live, engaging in expressions that transcend the traditional concepts of calligraphy.

Additionally, with the desire to pass on Japan’s delicate aesthetic and world-renowned craftsmanship to future generations, I actively work to promote the charm of traditional Japanese culture by traveling across Japan, connecting directly with artisans, and collaborating in the process of creation.
