Ichijiku
Ichijiku curates collections of the world’s rarest and most beautiful vintage silk kimono fabrics from all over Japan, and frames them upon the contemporary silhouette of Western apparel. Each Ichijiku piece is one of a kind and intended to be worn for generations.
Ichijiku (一軸) began in 2018 as a collection of exquisite vintage kimonos gifted to the company’s founder by a woman from Kyoto’s historic Gion district. Shortly later, the first Ichijiku product—a kimono necktie—was born. Ichijiku is now best known as the world’s first sustainable hyper luxury brand, distinguished by its Kimono Bespoke line of custom-order apparel, which combines age-old tailoring methods with vintage kimono silk to create one-of-a-kind wearable works of art.
Ichijiku envisions a world where kindness and intrinsic beauty are valued over anything else—a world free of gender norms, abuse, and destruction. It is a world where cultures are appreciated, rather than appropriated. Finally, it is a world where fashion and art intersect, resulting in garments that carry memories from the past, and create new memories for the future.
While other luxury houses are busy putting on fashion shows to convince you to throw away what you bought last season, Ichijiku creates pieces you’re never going to want to take off.
The kimono fabrics contained within Ichijiku’s collections are sourced from every corner of Japan, and are representative of Japan’s extremely diverse range of regional fabric making —from renowned textile regions like Amami Ōshima (Oshima Tsumugi) and Kyōto (Nishijin Ori, Kyō Yuzen), to lesser known areas such as Akita (Akita Hachijō) and Kagawa (Tsutsugaki Zomé). Ichijiku’s Kimono Bespoke pieces and accessories are framed with that same reverence for craftsmanship, by master tailors and garment makers in Tokyo, Osaka, Ibaraki, and Gunma.
Ichijiku has been featured by various global media outlets, including Japan’s most respected kimono publication, Nanao (七緒).
