CERANIS
The diverse climate and natural features of Japan, Each with its unique soil, water, forests, and fire.
Every piece different in form, different in hue.
This is pottery. This is Japanese culture.
The touch of human hands, the breath of human spirit, Breathing life into the clay, imbuing earthen stones with light.
Seto, Shigaraki, Arita, Bizen, Tsuboya— The air of each land, the essence of each soil, Shaped into vessels that enrich our daily lives.
The diversity of Japan's pottery reflects the distinct character of its soils.
Lined up side by side in uniform size, their beauty becomes apparent.
Each time you hold them, you feel their warmth.
With every use, their charm deepens.
Each vessel weaves a story, a tale unique to you.
Their diversity is what makes them beautiful.
This is the essence of Japanese pottery culture.
This is "CERANIS".
Japan’s craftsmanship culture is sustained by the skilled hands of artisans from across the country. The tradition of craftsmanship has been carefully passed down through generations in regions renowned for their ceramics, lacquerware, textiles, and more. For generations, these crafts have been an "everyday norm" in our lives.
However, as modernization and industrialization brought an abundance of mass-produced goods, changes in lifestyles and economic shifts have led to the decline of many traditional cultures and artisanal techniques across Japan.
To help deepen understanding of the charm and value of these time-honored production regions, we have curated them under the name "CERANIS".
We hope this initiative serves as an opportunity to rediscover the "everyday norms" that should be preserved and passed on to the next generation.
