Izumi Kato's works, which resemble spirits unearthed from ancient ruins or even extraterrestrial beings, appear to be closely connected to the domestic history and natural landscape of Shimane, her birthplace. The unique environment of the Izumo region, a setting for ancient mythology, seems to act as a cultural gene, imbuing Kato's creations with a mysterious power.
