Kazuya Ishida
Ceramic Artist
After graduating from high school, he pursued a career in Bizen ware, a family tradition. From the age of 20, he spent four years apprenticing under Jun Isezaki, a Living National Treasure in Bizen ware.
Following this, he traveled to the United Kingdom and spent approximately two years working in a ceramics studio, studying traditional techniques, language, and culture.
In 2013, he established their own workshop in Bizen and began working independently.
He primarily creates works using their original technique, Raho, where patterns emerge from centrifugal force. While respecting tradition, he continually seeks his own means of expression.

Inspired by the natural sculptural beauty found in seashells, geological layers, and other organic forms, he aims to highlight the raw strength and mystical qualities of the materials. He also embraces the unpredictable beauty created by wood-fired kilns, constantly challenging himself with innovative approaches.
Since 2015, he has been invited as a Visiting Professor by Oxford University, where he has taught kiln building, ceramic production, and wood firing techniques, along with delivering lectures and workshops.
He continues to serve as a Guest Artist in various countries, sharing their knowledge and creating works globally.
