osio craft

This is a palm-sized wooden "Kagami Mochi" (traditional Japanese New Year decoration).

The box comes with a decorative "Noshi" label, allowing you to simply remove it from the box and place it directly on display.

The "Daidai" (orange) features a slender brass pipe, enabling you to arrange a small houseplant, your favorite leaves, or flowers.

Crafted from beech wood sourced from Hida Takayama, it is intentionally left unpainted to preserve the natural whitewood appearance and finished with a slightly rough texture, resembling the authentic feel of real mochi.

We are "osio craft", an artisan workshop based in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture.

Our name, "osio craft", reflects our desire to create products that enhance everyday life, much like how salt ("shio") brings out the natural flavors of food.

At our workshop, we handle everything from designing and planning to manufacturing and selling wooden products, utilizing the unique characteristics of wood.

We strive to create forms and functions that are only possible with wood, carefully crafting each product to highlight the rich expressions of the material. With just a slight change in how it’s used, wood can reveal entirely different aesthetics, and we embrace this beauty and versatility in every piece we make.

We craft our products using a machine called a “woodturning lathe”, which spins wood at high speeds while it is shaped with handheld tools.

Each piece takes on a unique form, shaped by the subtle differences in how the tools are applied by hand. The result is dynamic and sharp contours that can only be achieved through the process of carving wood.

We strive to create designs that go beyond the typical warmth associated with wood, embracing its full range of characteristics to produce pieces that are both functional and visually striking.
