MARUTA
Satsuma Kiriko, with its delicate gradation cuts that create depth and brilliance, and its rich, vibrant colors, is a traditional Japanese craft born in the Edo period and handed down through generations.

“Fragrant Satsuma Kiriko” is a new luxury brand born from a collaboration between the prestigious Shimazu Corporation’s Satsuma Glass Works and fragrance specialist MARUTA, after many years of dedicated development. The refined brilliance of Satsuma Kiriko, which transforms with the changing light, and the graceful scents born from nature blend harmoniously to enrich daily life with elegance and poise, leaving a lingering sense of beauty. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by master artisans, elevating Satsuma Kiriko beyond glasswork into the realm of fine art.
Since its founding as an essential oil specialty store in 2008, MARUTA has upheld the philosophy that “fragrance brings happiness.” With a mission to deliver the harmony and well-being that scent can offer, MARUTA has introduced countless people to the therapeutic power of natural fragrances, which can instantly calm the mind.
They believed that combining such beautiful aromas with the refined aesthetics of Satsuma Kiriko would create an even more sophisticated and enriching spatial experience. From this belief, and in collaboration with Shimazu Corporation’s Satsuma Glass Works—responsible for the revival and evolution of this traditional craft—“Fragrant Satsuma Kiriko” was born.
While Satsuma Kiriko has traditionally been used for tableware and vases, this new venture has brought forth a luxurious aroma reed diffuser, born from MARUTA’s vision, the artisans’ exceptional skills, and their shared passion.

Located in the southern part of Kyushu, Kagoshima is a land of rich nature and profound history. As the birthplace of historic figures like Takamori Saigo and Toshimichi Okubo, key architects of the Meiji Restoration, Kagoshima played a vital role in modernizing Japan. Even during the Anglo-Satsuma War in 1863, the region not only held its own in conflict with Britain but later forged friendly relations and eagerly adopted Western technologies, laying the groundwork for modernization.
Today, Sakurajima, a majestic volcano that still erupts frequently, stands as a symbol of Kagoshima’s vibrant energy. The volcanic ash has created fertile soil, nurturing highly nutritious and flavorful produce that is celebrated throughout Japan. Kagoshima is also home to charming streetcar-lined cityscapes, a food culture rooted in shochu and prized Kurobuta pork, and a spirited atmosphere where history, nature, and warm-hearted people come together. Above all, it is the connection with the locals that leaves a truly lasting impression.
