Takayoshi Sakurai
Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1944.
Graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Nihon University College of Art in 1968.
Began creating artworks in a studio in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
Since then, has continued to produce works energetically and held numerous solo exhibitions.
Received numerous awards in art competitions and published a collection of works in 2015.
Awarded the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon by the Cabinet Office in 2016.
Visiting Professor of Oil Painting at Nihon University College of Art.
He creates works themed on Mt. Fuji. Living at an altitude of 800 meters on the northern foot of Mt. Fuji, he spends each day in close connection with the mountain.
Drawing inspiration and energy from Mt. Fuji—the symbol of Japan—he has maintained his studio at the base of the mountain and has been creating art for over 50 years. His powerful depictions of Mt. Fuji continue to move the hearts of many.
