Rie Hasegawa

Rie Hasegawa (born 1973 in Kanagawa Prefecture) is a contemporary artist who pursues intuitive expression through alcohol ink art and modeling paste. She discovered art through meditation and describes how the colors and forms that emerge from a thought-free, meditative state reflect her true essence. The accidental beauty that arises from this uncalculated creative process is the core appeal of her work.

Hasegawa’s artworks combine the organic flow and blending unique to alcohol ink with the textured depth of modeling paste, creating lighthearted and charming expressions. In recent years, she has also begun creating pieces using minoyaki—a traditional Japanese pottery—infusing small plates with vibrant colors and power stones. By incorporating these one-of-a-kind stones, her works bring a quiet richness to their surroundings, seamlessly merging traditional beauty with modern sensibilities.

Her creations are produced in Kanagawa, where she resides, drawing inspiration from the surrounding nature and her daily meditation practice. By combining the unpredictability of alcohol ink with the shifting light and atmosphere of everyday life, she crafts artwork that harmonizes naturally within a space. Through workshops and solo exhibitions, she places great value on sharing the creative process directly with her audience, offering a playful and accessible world that resonates with local communities and participants.
