For thirty years, Sakae Taniguchi devoted himself to the art of glass under the mentorship of Kuniharu Kuroki. Through this long apprenticeship, he absorbed not only his master’s passion for glassmaking but also the refined sensibility that resonates deeply with the Japanese spirit, inheriting a wide range of highly advanced techniques.
In 2019, among the many disciples trained by Kuroki, Taniguchi was uniquely recognized as the sole successor to Kuroki’s iconic “Kōrin” series. From that year onward, he formally began his career as an independent artist.

Working on transparent glass as his canvas, Taniguchi creates poetic worlds deeply rooted in Japanese sensibility. His signature “Journey Through Time and Space” series captures delicate gradations of color and shimmering shadows reminiscent of watercolor paintings. Drawing inspiration from the vitality and beauty of nature, his works sublimate the richness of life and dynamic energy into luminous expressions of glass—pursuing new creative challenges that go beyond mere succession.

Aya Town in Miyazaki Prefecture is home to one of Japan’s largest expanses of evergreen broadleaf forest and was recognized as a UNESCO Eco Park in 2012. Living in harmony with this abundant natural environment, Taniguchi finds inspiration in the changing seasons, the beauty of Japan, and the essence of life itself—elements that give rise to his distinctive works.
