03 Sits equally well in Japanese and Western interiors

Aji Stone — Found Only in One Place on Earth
Aji Stone is a granite quarried exclusively in the northeastern corner of Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture — nowhere else in the world. Its defining characteristic is density. The particles that form its grain are exceptionally fine and tightly bonded, giving it a Mohs hardness of 7, on par with quartz and nearly twice the hardness of marble (Mohs 4). That density also means low moisture absorption — Aji Stone does not stain, does not weather, and does not degrade. Objects made from it outlast the contexts they are placed in.

A Stone That Requires Specialists
Aji Stone's hardness makes it notoriously difficult to work. In Takamatsu, artisans who have dedicated their careers to this material handle every stage of production — quarrying, cutting, shaping, polishing, and finishing — each requiring different tools and different judgement accumulated over years. The knowledge moves from person to person, generation to generation, and cannot be substituted by machinery alone.

The Simplest Form a Door Stopper Can Take
FUJ #1 reduces the door stopper to its essentials: a cylinder of Aji Stone with a rope threaded through its center. No base, no rubber feet, no mechanism. The weight of the stone — 3.2 kg — does the work. The cylindrical form is precise but not cold; the natural variation in the stone's surface gives each piece its own character.

Stone and Rope
Aji Stone's gray tones carry a natural quiet that leans traditional. The colored rope introduces a contemporary note — a small contrast that keeps the object from feeling archaic. The result sits easily in both Japanese and Western interiors: present without demanding attention, noticed when you look for it.
