TANZAKU Lamp — Bent-Wood LED Lamp by STORIO, Niigata

Bent to the Limit — One Piece, No Joints
The TANZAKU Lamp is made from a single piece of solid beech using bent-wood technique — a method that exploits wood's natural plasticity, shaping it under force and allowing it to retain that form permanently. No joints, no glue lines, no waste. This technique has been used in Japan for centuries, most notably in the production of magewappa bent-wood lunch boxes. STORIO takes it further: precision machined to 0.1 mm — an uncommon level of accuracy in the woodworking industry — producing a lamp that is thinner and more flexible than most people expect from wood.

Warm Light Through Pale Grain
Light passes through the pale, figured grain of beech wood, creating a calm, amber glow — inspired by the gentle warmth of a traditional hearth. The lamp is available in three styles, each shaped for a specific moment and setting.

Twist Style
A softly twisted form that catches the eye. Designed so that the lamp clears your elbow while writing at a desk — beauty built around a practical constraint. Of the three styles, Twist illuminates the widest area, making it ideal for reading before bed or quiet evening moments.

Arch Style
Turn off the ceiling lights and let the Arch lamp hold the scene. It illuminates just your drink and snacks while watching a film — a small pool of light in the dark. Carried over your arm, it lights only your feet: useful for moving through a room without waking a sleeping child or disturbing others.

U-Shape Style
Designed for the dining table at dusk. Its U-shaped form keeps the light source out of your line of sight, so the glow falls on the food and the faces across from you — brighter than candlelight, softer than a ceiling lamp. A companion for unhurried conversation.

170 g, Rechargeable, Cordless
The lamp body weighs just 170 g and is equipped with an LED and a rechargeable battery. Charge via the included USB-C cable and place it anywhere. A light touch switches it on; tap repeatedly to adjust brightness.

Snow-Mountain Beech — From Firewood to Lamp
The beech used in the TANZAKU Lamp grows in the heavy-snow mountains of Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. Once harvested for firewood and charcoal, demand declined and many forests were left unmanaged — until the trees grew heavy enough to trigger landslides. STORIO joined the Snow Beach Project, an initiative with Niigata University and local furniture makers to restore these satoyama forests. The TANZAKU Lamp is one result: beech once considered difficult to process, now shaped into something enduring.
