REELA is made from high-quality Japanese cowhide leather. Like a good pair of leather shoes, it starts with a snug fit and gradually conforms to the shape of the wearer's foot over time — becoming more comfortable with each use, regardless of season. The heel is fitted with thick cushioning, and the lining, insole, and outsole use brushed artificial leather that contours naturally to bare skin, so the fit stays secure and the shoe doesn't flap when worn.

A Waxed Finish That Ages Beautifully with Wear
This version of REELA is made with a waxed leather that carries an antique, weathered character from the start. The leather is tanned with tannin, then finished by pressing wax into the surface with a heated iron — a process that leaves it slightly firmer than the smooth leather at first, but one that softens and develops its own patina the more it's worn. The wax also gives the leather natural resistance to water and stains, so it needs less upkeep over time. It's a finish especially popular among men who enjoy watching a pair of shoes age and take on character.

The Wooden Last — What Sets REELA Apart
The defining step in REELA's production is wooden last molding — shaping the shoe over a wooden form to give it its precise fit and structure. This is uncommon in indoor footwear manufacturing, and for good reason: the process is labor-intensive and technically demanding. Other manufacturers have attempted to replicate it and have not succeeded. Because of it, one pair takes several days to complete.

REELA is produced by Yamato Corporation, a footwear manufacturer based in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, with over 50 years of history making sandals. Cutting, sole and upper assembly, stitching — every step is finished by hand, followed by several days of shaping over the wooden last. Full molding at this stage is rare even among sandal makers, but Yamato has kept the practice since its founding, in pursuit of a fit that never compromises on comfort.
