Wind-resistant vinyl umbrella · 16-rib · White Rose · Est. Edo period
Nearly 300 years of umbrella making
White ROSE is a long-established Japanese umbrella maker with a history stretching back to the Edo period — and the world's first company to develop the transparent film umbrella. Their vinyl umbrellas combine refined functionality with quiet elegance, and have attracted attention from customers outside Japan for exactly that reason.

Izayoi Zakura — the elegant 16-rib model
A structure engineered for wind
The umbrella's most distinctive feature is its patented valve system — a series of small openings in the canopy that allow trapped wind to escape from the inside out. This prevents the umbrella from inverting in strong gusts, reducing the strain on the frame and the person holding it. Particularly effective in urban environments where wind direction is unpredictable, and in open areas prone to sudden squalls.
The vents are virtually invisible from the outside and do not allow rain through — the canopy remains fully waterproof in use.
Superior clarity through multilayer film
While most vinyl umbrellas use PVC (polyvinyl chloride), White ROSE uses a polyolefin multilayer film — thicker, clearer, and more durable. The result is a transparency that reads as considered rather than cheap, and a surface that holds up over time.
16 ribs, cherry wood, and a tassel
Izayoi Zakura — named after the sixteenth night moon — is the 16-rib model in the White ROSE lineup. The additional ribs distribute tension more evenly across the canopy, contributing both to durability and to the umbrella's fuller, more refined silhouette. The canopy edge is finished with a woven checkered tape in a restrained pattern. The handle and ferrule are made from natural cherry wood with bark intact, shaped into a traditional curved form. A small tassel completes the detail — simple, but present.

Natural cherry wood handle with bark intact
The fiberglass ribs keep weight down despite the 16-rib construction — the umbrella opens fully without feeling heavy in the hand. At 38.6 in (98 cm) canopy diameter and 34.3 in (87 cm) in length, it offers generous coverage in a practical size. A considered gift for someone who uses an umbrella every day.

Care
Do not wipe water droplets from the film with cloth — this may cause fine scratches and reduce transparency. Instead, open the umbrella and allow it to air dry in the shade.
The inner binding cords (8 cords visible inside the canopy) connect the ribs to the film and maintain structural integrity — do not cut or remove them.
The safety runner allows the umbrella to open and close with minimal force — slide it up and down rather than forcing the canopy open.
The multilayer film is less flexible than fabric; some resistance when opening and closing is normal.
