Not a print. Not a mirror. Something harder to name.
MARUMADO — "round window" — is a wall-hung work in which flowers are arranged inside a circular wooden frame to create the illusion of a view. Not a view from above, as in a painting. A view from eye level, as if there were an actual opening in the wall, and beyond it, a field or a hillside you can almost step into. The depth is composed, not photographed. The scene is invented.

Each piece is made once and not repeated.
The arrangement of flowers, their color distribution, the exact placement within the frame — all of this is left to the maker. What you receive will resemble the photographs in spirit and palette, but it will not be identical. That is part of what you are acquiring: a composition that exists only once.

The maker: Norihiko Kamei / AME
Kamei is a visual artist and ikebana master based in Kita-Kamakura. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University Graduate School in 2007 and holds a teaching certification in the Sogetsu school of ikebana. His work has been exhibited in the Netherlands, France, and Germany. AME — his art product brand — is built around the idea of compressing natural landscapes into objects small enough to hold, or in the case of MARUMADO, large enough to inhabit a wall. In Zen tradition, the circular window is said to represent enlightenment and the wholeness of the universe. Kamei uses that form not as a symbol, but as a frame — a threshold between the room you are in and a place that only exists in flowers.
