Stillness you can hold in your hands

01 A living moss garden sealed in ceramic — preserved for 3 to 5 years.
02 Paired with handcrafted cypress incense — scent and sight, composed together.
03 Made by hand, one at a time — no two moss landscapes are the same.

A quiet landscape for the desk, the shelf, the bedside.
Open the lid and a miniature world appears — moss arranged in organic curves across a deep black ceramic vessel. The form is small enough to cup in two hands, but the effect it has on a room is disproportionate. It asks you to slow down and look.

Light the incense. Let the moment settle.
The set includes an incense holder and a bundle of 25 sticks crafted from Yoshino cypress — a clean, resinous scent that rises slowly and lingers without announcing itself. The fragrance, named "Zenku" (zen air), was conceived to recall the sensation of looking out from a temple hall into a silent garden. When smoke and moss are in the same frame, something shifts.

The maker: Norihiko Kamei / AME
Kamei is a visual artist and ikebana master based in Kita-Kamakura. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University Graduate School in 2007, and holds a teaching certification in the Sogetsu school of ikebana. His work has been exhibited in the Netherlands, France, and Germany. AME — his art product brand — is built around a single premise: natural landscapes, compressed to fit in the palm of your hand. In July 2020, he opened his atelier in Kita-Kamakura, where each piece in the ZEN series is made individually.

Because each landscape is composed by hand, the exact arrangement of moss will differ from the photographs. That variation is the point.

Care

Keep away from direct sunlight and high humidity. The preserved moss will naturally fade over time — this is part of its character. The ceramic vessel can be gently wiped with a dry cloth.
