Exotic Leather That Refuses to Play It Safe
The Outrageous Ones
"Being called outrageous — or even ridiculous — is the highest compliment I can receive."
Those words, delivered with a broad grin, belong to Naohiko Sano — the founder behind GO-ONE, a leather brand unlike any other.
When most people think of leather goods, they picture handbags and wallets in cowhide or sheepskin. GO-ONE carries none of that. Not a single conventional piece. The brand works exclusively with exotic leathers — galuchat (stingray) and crocodile — that are notoriously difficult to handle. Combined with a boldly colorful palette and a playful spirit found nowhere else, GO-ONE's creations stop you in your tracks.
"We intentionally avoid playing it safe. We don't try to please everyone."
— Naohiko Sano, Founder, GO-ONE
In an era dominated by marketing-led brands, Sano's philosophy is refreshingly unapologetic. And it all began with a single offhand remark.
Turning Baseless Words into Reality
A phone call that changed everything
Seven years ago, Sano was running a parallel import business in luxury watches when he received an unexpected phone call. On the other end was a craftsman who made bespoke watch straps from exotic leather — reaching out simply as a customer.
Curious, Sano visited the workshop. What he found left him speechless: vibrant, intricately hand-crafted crocodile watch straps, born from a level of skill he had never encountered before.
"This kind of talent shouldn't stay hidden. The world needs to know about this."
— Naohiko Sano
He had no experience in leather goods. No industry contacts. No rational basis for the claim. But the words were already out.
Los Angeles, and a sudden order
Japan had little culture of customizing luxury watch straps at the time — so a friend suggested looking abroad. At precisely the right moment, a business connection mentioned opening a store in Los Angeles. Sano placed a small selection of crocodile straps in the shop almost as an experiment. The response came suddenly and decisively: a significant order from the American authorized dealer of a prestigious Swiss watch house.
"I just say things first. Then I figure out how to make them happen."
— Naohiko Sano
From that moment, Sano moved forward with exactly that mindset — attending trade events, knocking on doors, building relationships from zero. In some cases, it took years of persistent outreach before a single partnership took hold.

Crafting the World's Hardest Leather
Galuchat — the jewel of the ocean
GO-ONE's next chapter introduced galuchat — stingray skin celebrated as the "jewel of the ocean" for its extraordinary glass-bead-like luster. Sano's ambition: neckties and bow ties crafted entirely from galuchat. Something no one had ever made before.
The craftsmen refused
Galuchat is the hardest of all leathers — shaping its rigid surface into the gentle curves of a necktie was considered virtually impossible. After months of trial, error, and stubborn persistence, the finished pieces emerged as something entirely without precedent. Leather goods that redefine what leather can be.

Galuchat Bow Tie — GO-ONE
A restaurateur who encountered the bow tie at an event couldn't contain himself: "You actually did it... that's incredible. I can't believe someone went this far."
To Sano, those words were the highest possible compliment.
What Comes Next
Sano's eyes light up when he talks about this year's projects — bolder, he promises, than anything GO-ONE has done before. Each reckless promise has led to unexpected encounters: new collaborators, new materials, new possibilities no business plan could have mapped.
"I have nothing, really. My only true asset is that the right person always brings the right thing at exactly the right moment."
— Naohiko Sano
GO-ONE deliberately avoids heavy advertising and aggressive social media. Sano operates on a quiet conviction: "If you create something truly good and genuinely interesting, the people who are meant to find it will."
GO-ONE moves in the opposite direction of conventional and safe. Its character — audacious, full of adult playfulness, uncompromisingly handcrafted — speaks for itself, and finds its audience exactly as Sano always said it would. Perhaps grown-ups are at their most interesting when they're a little outrageous.
