With a Mohs hardness rating of 7—comparable to quartz—Aji Stone surpasses most decorative stones in strength (for comparison, marble ranks at 4). Its tightly bonded fine particles enable precise and delicate craftsmanship. Moreover, its low moisture absorption makes it highly resistant to weathering, ensuring long-lasting quality.

Handcrafted by Japanese Artisans

Due to the stone’s remarkable hardness and density, working with Aji Stone requires a high level of expertise. In its place of origin, specialized artisans handle each stage of the process—from quarrying and cutting to polishing, engraving, and shaping. This paper roll stand is a combination of stone and wood. The center of gravity is stabilized by using a stone as a base, and even when paper is pulled out the structure is designed to prevent it from falling over.
