The seat of this stool is shaped by hand plane into a gentle curve — a concave form that distributes weight across the surface and removes the hard-edge pressure that makes most wooden seats uncomfortable within minutes. The result is a stool you can actually sit on, not just look at.

Where it works
Pull it out in the kitchen when you need a moment off your feet. Use it at the entrance to put shoes on. Set it beside a sofa as a surface for a drink or a book. Place a plant on it. The triangular plan fits naturally into corners, and the three-legged base stays stable on floors that four legs would rock on — no adjustment, no folded napkin underneath.

Two woods, two directions
Walnut is one of the world's most regarded furniture timbers — dense, dark, with a grain that shifts between warm brown and cooler tones depending on the light. With age and handling, it softens toward a mellower, more luminous color. Cherry starts pale — a quiet pink-white — and transforms more dramatically than almost any other species. Exposure to light gradually deepens it toward a rich amber-red. Both are oil-finished to let the material speak without obscuring it.

This stool was awarded the Japan Wood Design Award in 2016. It is not a limited piece or a prototype — it is a production object that has been made, tested, and refined over years of use.
