Wind-resistant vinyl umbrella · Auto-open · White Rose · Est. Edo period

01 A patented valve structure allows wind to escape, preventing the canopy from inverting even in strong gusts.
02 One-touch auto-open mechanism with a camellia wood handle and white birch shaft — built for daily suit use.
03 From the maker who invented the vinyl umbrella — a men's model designed to be kept, not discarded.

Nearly 300 years of umbrella making
White ROSE is a long-established Japanese umbrella maker with a history stretching back to the Edo period — and the world's first company to develop the transparent film umbrella. Their vinyl umbrellas combine refined functionality with quiet elegance, and have attracted attention from customers outside Japan for exactly that reason.

A structure engineered for wind
The umbrella's most distinctive feature is its patented valve system — a series of small openings in the canopy that allow trapped wind to escape from the inside out. This prevents the umbrella from inverting in strong gusts, reducing the strain on the frame and the person holding it. Particularly effective in urban environments where wind direction is unpredictable, and in open areas prone to sudden squalls. The vents are virtually invisible from the outside and do not allow rain through — the canopy remains fully waterproof in use.

Superior clarity through multilayer film
While most vinyl umbrellas use PVC (polyvinyl chloride), White ROSE uses a polyolefin multilayer film — thicker, clearer, and more durable. The result is a transparency that reads as considered rather than cheap, and a surface that holds up over time.

One-touch open, natural wood throughout
Catell M17 is White ROSE's men's auto-open model. A single press of the button opens the canopy fully — practical for commuters and anyone who uses an umbrella in motion. The shaft is white birch, the handle camellia wood: two species chosen for their density, grain, and the way they feel in the hand over years of use. Fiberglass ribs on both the main and support frames keep the overall weight in check despite the generous 40.6 in (103 cm) canopy.

Camellia wood handle and white birch shaft

At 35.4 in (90 cm) in length with a 40.6 in (103 cm) canopy, it offers coverage suited to a man's frame — wide enough to be genuinely useful in rain, balanced enough to carry without noticing. Works equally well with a suit or casual dress.

Care

Do not wipe water droplets from the film with cloth — this may cause fine scratches and reduce transparency. Instead, open the umbrella and allow it to air dry in the shade.
The inner binding cords (8 cords visible inside the canopy) connect the ribs to the film and maintain structural integrity — do not cut or remove them.
The multilayer film is less flexible than fabric; some resistance when opening and closing is normal.
