A shoehorn you will not hide in a drawer.
Most shoehorns end up out of sight because they are not worth looking at. At H 26.8 in (680 mm), this one stands upright on its base and holds its place at the entrance without apology. The height means you use it without bending down — a small change to a daily action that turns out to matter more than expected.

The base is not an afterthought. It is what allows the shoehorn to stand independently and become a considered part of the entryway rather than something stored away. The form was designed with both states in mind — in use and at rest — and neither is compromised.

Walnut and cherry, each with a different arc over time.
Walnut opens dark — a deep, settled brown that stays close to what it is on day one. Cherry starts lighter, with a faint warmth, and deepens steadily with exposure to light and handling. Both are solid wood; both show grain that shifts from piece to piece. The one you receive will not match the photograph exactly. That is the nature of the material.

Made by KOMA, a furniture atelier in Tokyo.
KOMA is led by Shigeki Matsuoka, recognized in 2020 as one of Japan's "Contemporary Master Craftsmen" — a national designation awarded to fewer than 150 artisans across all trades each year. The atelier is based in Ogikubo, Tokyo, and applies the same standards to a shoehorn as to a full dining table. The logic is simple: if the craft is worth doing, it is worth doing completely.

Care

Wipe with a dry or lightly dampened cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources, which may cause warping or discoloration. As with all solid wood, minor movement at joints may occur over time — this is a natural characteristic of the material, not a defect.

Note

Each piece is made from natural wood. Grain pattern, color tone, and surface expression vary between individual pieces and will differ from the product photography. Slight variation in shape and dimension is inherent to the handcraft process. A 1-year warranty covers manufacturing and structural defects; damage from misuse, impact, or environmental factors is not included.
