Solid Walnut or Cherry · Hand-Joined Frame · Tokyo Atelier

01 Four solid pieces, the seams set on a diagonal.
02 Hangs on a wall, or leans against one — equally at home either way.
03 Solid walnut or cherry — each piece ages into its own character.

A mirror sized to anchor a room, not disappear into it.
At 14 in (355 mm) across, the maru mirror is substantial enough to hold its own on a wall, yet compact enough to lean casually against one. Hang it in an entryway for a last glance on the way out, or rest it against a wall in a bedroom or living room, where its round form softens a corner. It holds its presence whether or not anyone is looking into it.

Four pieces, the seams set on a diagonal.
The frame is built from four pieces of solid wood, brought together into a continuous circle — not bent, not turned from a single block. Aligning four straight pieces into a true circle takes precision in both the angle of each cut and the direction of the grain. The seams are set on a diagonal rather than running straight across the frame, a detail that keeps the joinery from reading as four matched quarters.

Walnut and cherry, each with a different arc over time.
Walnut opens dark — a deep, settled brown that stays close to what it is on day one. Cherry starts lighter, with a faint warmth, and deepens steadily with exposure to light and handling. Both are solid wood; both show grain that shifts from piece to piece. The one you receive will not match the photograph exactly. That is the nature of the material.

Made by KOMA, a furniture atelier in Tokyo.
KOMA is led by Shigeki Matsuoka, recognized in 2020 as one of Japan's "Contemporary Master Craftsmen" — a national designation awarded to fewer than 150 artisans across all trades each year. The atelier is based in Ogikubo, Tokyo, and applies the same standards to a shoehorn as to a full dining table. The logic is simple: if the craft is worth doing, it is worth doing completely.

Care

Wipe with a dry or lightly dampened cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources, which may cause warping or discoloration. As with all solid wood, minor movement at joints may occur over time — this is a natural characteristic of the material, not a defect.

How to Use

The mirror can be hung on a wall using the bracket on the back, or simply leaned against a wall or piece of furniture — both are intended uses. If hanging, you will need your own wall anchor and screw suited to your wall type (drywall, plaster, or masonry); the bracket on the mirror is included, but the wall-side hardware is not. Confirm your wall and anchor can support the weight before hanging.

Note

Each piece is made from natural wood. Grain pattern, color tone, and surface expression vary between individual pieces and will differ from the product photography. Slight variation in shape and dimension is inherent to the handcraft process. A 1-year warranty covers manufacturing and structural defects; damage from misuse, impact, or environmental factors — including prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat — is not included.
