Reproduction helmet · handcrafted by Icchu Kato · Tokyo traditional craftsman

01 The crescent moon on jet-black — the most iconic helmet design of Japan's Warring States period
02 Reproduced by Icchu Kato — the only craftsman in Japan who recreates armor through faithful historical research
03 Involved in the repair and restoration of national treasures and important cultural properties

A sharp crescent moon rising from a jet-black helmet — among the many helmet designs of Japanese armor, this is perhaps the most immediately recognizable. The asymmetrical, delicate form of the crescent reflects a distinctly Japanese sense of beauty: an elegance that lies not in symmetry, but in deliberate imbalance.

This is a faithful reproduction of the helmet of Date Masamune — one of the most celebrated warlords of the Warring States period — crafted by Tokyo-based armorer Icchu Kato.

About Icchu Kato
A designated Tokyo Metropolitan Traditional Craftsman, Icchu Kato is involved in the repair and restoration of national treasures and important cultural properties.
