Silk stole · needle-punch texture
A flowing, lustrous sheen
A modern and elegant stole defined by the fluid glow of silk. Though minimal in appearance, its dynamic texture brings movement beyond a simple solid design — effortlessly elevating your look and brightening the face whether loosely draped or casually wrapped.
A technique only muto can achieve
Crafted from a soft, warm silk-wool fabric, this piece features a needle-punch process that only muto — founded in 1967 — can achieve. Ultra-fine silk-wool yarn is woven in a plain weave, after which silk floss is carefully laid across the surface by hand, flowing like a gentle stream. Through needle-punching, the silk floss is embedded into the textile, creating a luminous texture. This highly delicate technique — inserting silk floss into an already fine fabric using ultra-fine fibres — is a signature skill made possible only by muto's mastery of micro-filament materials, said to be shared with renowned global brands as well.
The result is a refined shimmer of silk combined with a unique, dimensional texture. Because each piece is handmade, every stole carries its own individual expression — part of its distinctive charm.
Warm and voluminous yet remarkably light, it is comfortable not only in winter but also during the cooler days of autumn and early spring. Its flowing design reveals different expressions depending on how it is styled; try a classic loop wrap or the Milan wrap for a sophisticated, cozy look in colder seasons.
A journey of at least six months to complete a single stole
Located in Nishikatsura in southeastern Yamanashi — a region long known for premium textiles such as Kaiki silk — muto, established in 1967, continues to explore new possibilities in weaving while preserving traditional craftsmanship and working with ultra-fine natural fibres.

According to Mr. Muto, even at the fastest pace, it takes no less than six months to complete a single silk-cashmere stole.
The process begins with the development of ultra-fine blended yarn combining silk and cashmere — a material jointly developed by muto and a spinning company. This is followed by a "double cover" process to enhance yarn strength, essential for achieving the brand's distinctive texture, along with warping to prepare the required number and length of warp threads, and the meticulous threading process that readies the loom for weaving.

Only after these steps — a journey of roughly half a year — can the fabric finally be woven. Due to the delicacy of the ultra-fine yarn, production is limited to approximately four pieces per day.
By blending natural ultra-fine fibres for the most comfortable touch and weaving them slowly on traditional looms, air and softness are gently incorporated into the fabric. The finishing process is completed using snowmelt water and mountain winds from Mt. Fuji, resulting in a stole of exceptional lightness and texture. Each piece is brought to life by the skilled hands of master artisans. We invite you to experience its remarkable lightness and refined touch for yourself.
