A case worthy of the watches inside it
As a collection grows, the cases that come with each watch begin to conflict — different materials, different proportions, no visual coherence. The alternative, a generic case from a shop, rarely feels right either. Bespoke Case was started in 2019 by Toshihiro Kamei of furniture atelier KOMA to answer exactly this problem: a watch case made from rare wood, built with the same standards as fine furniture, designed to house a collection as a unified whole.

Walnut and cherry watch cases by Bespoke Case — KOMA

Left: walnut · Right: cherry

Two woods, two characters
Walnut is dense, impact-resistant, and regarded as one of the finest furniture timbers in the world. Its natural oils give it a warmth that deepens with handling — the surface gradually shifts toward a richer, darker tone over years of use. Cherry starts lighter — a pale amber — and transforms more dramatically than almost any other species, developing a deep, honey-like luster as it ages. Both are available; the choice depends on which direction you want the case to move over time.

Ultrasuede interior
The interior lining is Ultrasuede — a Japanese-developed microfiber material used in the cabins of European luxury vehicles. It has the look and feel of high-grade suede, with significantly better resistance to wear, staining, and moisture. Available in ivory or dark grey.

Four techniques that define the finish
The construction of each case draws on joinery and finishing methods developed over generations of furniture-making.

Box joinery
The case is assembled using a traditional Japanese joinery technique called ko-ne-oiire-kumitsugi — a form of interlocking joint that bonds the corners of the box without adhesive alone, giving the structure its long-term rigidity.

Grain matching
Each panel is cut and positioned so that the grain flows continuously across all faces of the case. The result reads as a single piece of wood rather than an assembled box.

Oil finish
The surface is worked with hand planes and sandpaper, then sealed with a grain filler before oil is applied. The filler prevents moisture from pooling on the surface and gives the wood an exceptionally smooth hand. No urethane coating or staining is used — both would obscure the natural color and texture of the wood.

Concealed hinges
The hinges are set into the interior of the case and covered by the Ultrasuede lining. No hardware is visible from outside or inside when the case is closed — or open.

Note

Each case is made from natural wood — grain pattern, color, and surface character will vary between pieces. This variation is inherent to the material.
Minor dimensional variation between individual cases is normal.
Although well-seasoned timber is used, natural wood may exhibit small movements over time — slight shifts at the joints or minor warping are possible and are not considered defects.
